The calendar might read 2021, but the business drama often looks like 1821. Mining, farming, lumber and all the other primary industries of colonial economies have been acquisition crazy of late. This time, it is the troubled diamond mines still hurting from girls finally having the voice to say they’ve wanted real best friends instead of shiny baubles.

South Africa-based Rockwell Diamonds will be acquired by 1274787 B.C. Ltd., otherwise known as “Bristco.” Incorporated in BC, Bristco is wholly-owned by Mark Bristow, the President and CEO of Barrick Gold Corporation. He was previously CEO of Randgold Resources, which he founded. That company was purchased by Barrick almost three years ago.  Common shares are worth half-a-cent cash in the deal.

There are a few other jewels in this week’s B2B news, even if feels like SAP consulting mergers are happening once a week, nothing can tarnish Sapphire System’s merger with Pioneer Business 1. Oren Tabib, Pioneer Business 1’s owner and founder, will serve as President and CEO of the new company.

Keeping things shiny, or at least clean and hopefully disinfected because we’re still in a pandemic (in case no one has reminded you in the last nine seconds), MidOcean Partners has acquired LYNX Franchising. LYNX is describes itself as “a multi-brand platform with a collection of B2B essential services, including Intelligent Office, FRSTeam, and JAN-PRO Systems International.”

JAN-PRO is a leader in commercial cleaning and disinfecting franchises. The company has seen a 500% increase in its upgraded special cleaning and disinfecting services since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

We’re not sure if Dell gave John Tavares a gold watch after his 25 years of service there, but we have to ask because we’ve established a pretty good theme in this column.

Commvault, an enterprise software provider for the management of data across cloud and on-premises environments, has appointed the industry veteran Tavares as its Vice President, Global Channel and Alliances. Tavares is now responsible for overseeing the growth of Commvault’s Global Partner Organization and strengthening the company’s relationships with partners worldwide. Tavares was previously with Dell EMC, where he held a variety of sales leadership roles, first for EMC and then through the merger with Dell.
