For the benefit of our international readers, Canadians just faced their second election in less than two years and returned the Liberal party to a minority government. With line ups that stretched late into the night in Toronto and with mail-in ballots still to be counted across the country, there remain at least four races that are too close to call. That has not stopped certain media from making projections.

With the return of commuter traffic and after a flurry of pandemic consolidations and reductions in the second quarter of 2020, the emerging eVTOL aircraft industry is back in the news. GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes, Brazil’s largest airline, has signed a non-binding letter of intent with Avolon for the acquisition and/or lease of 250 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The company expects to start operating a flight network in Brazil using eVTOL planes by mid-2025.
Grupo Comporte, an entity owned by GOL’s shareholders, is providing the investment capital required for the project. Created by the British enterprise Vertical Aerospace, the VA-X4 eVTOL model can carry up to four passengers and one pilot. It has a range of 160 km and a maximum speed of 320 km/h. It also produces 100 times less noise than a cruising helicopter, and 30 times less on takeoff and landing.
